3 Installations – Press Release

3 Installations is a group exhibition curated by Thomas Lamprecht featuring works by –three UCSD MFA graduate students Michael Ano, Heejung Shin and Audrey Hope.

Hope attended the Skowhegan School of Painting and Sculpture in 2014. After receiving her BFA from the School of the Museum of Fine Arts, Boston in association with Tufts University in 2008, Hope was awarded a 2014 Traveling Fellowship by the School. Recent exhibitions include MaRS Gallery (Los Angeles), Centro de las Artes de San Agustín (Oaxaca), the Museum of Contemporary Art San Diego, OSLO10 (Basel), kijidome (Boston), xpon-art (Hamburg), SOMA (Mexico City), CaSa (Oaxaca), Fringe Projects (Miami), the Manhattan Beach Art Center, and Santa Ana College. Hope was an Artist-in-Residence at Ox-Bow in Michigan this fall.

Michael Ano is an artist, curator, and educator. Contemplating the transmission of ideas and its correlative relationship to systems of power- Ano makes alternative platforms for information distribution, to explore how ideas and people connect to ask whether pedagogical methods can more fully democratize the diffusion of learning, and to conduct critical thought experiments in deconstructing how resources associated with social stratification are codified. He has explored a variety of pedagogical practices both formally and informally through different lenses: as a student, instructor, facilitator, and producer.

Shin was born in 1988 in Pusan, South Korea and started to study Art in Seoul, South Korea in 2000.  In 2012 she double major in Visual Communication and in Painting receiving her BFA from the Collage of Art, Seoul National University. 2017 candidate for the MFA in Visual Arts, College of Visual Arts, University of California, San Diego

Working in a variety of media: drawing, video and sculpture, these artists employ their specific visual strategies to engage the viewer in the Power, Energy and Voice of art.

The exhibition opens on November 16th from 5:30p to 8p, with an artist discussions from 6-7 pm.
